Safta Riva's Cookies
“These were my favorite cookies as a child… My grandma always made them and they were simple and perfect. When we would come home from visiting her in the summer, we would get a giant Tupperware kind of container packed to the brim that was airtight and we would put them in our suitcase and bring them home from the trip. She had cookie cutters that would make them in circles and squares for the most part if I remember correctly.”

Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 1¾ stickbutter — a little less than 2 sticks
- 1 cupsugar
- 1 tablespooncognac or brandy
- 1 tablespoonvinegar
- 3 cupflour
- 1 packagebaking powder
- 1 packagevanilla sugar
Steps

Combine all ingredients to make a pastry dough.

Roll out the pastry and use cookie cutters to make shapes.

Bake at 350°F until golden brown.
